What are the Requirements to Study in New Zealand?

  • Bachelor’s Program: New Zealand does not follow a tough process for students to gain admission. It is pretty easy, and you need to have a good academic record in your plus two. You will also need an English Proficiency Test score.
  • Master’s Program: Almost all universities follow the same requirements for a Master’s degree. You will need a minimum of 50-60% in your Bachelor’s. You may also need to furnish portfolios or other certificates to prove your merit according to your course. Additionally, IELTS, TOEFL, GRE, or GMAT scores.
  • Doctoral Programs: To do a Doctoral program in New Zealand, you will need a relatively good grade in your Master’s in a related field. A few universities also ask for an experience certificate of 1-2 years. If your stream is Business or Management Studies, you may also need to take GRE or GMAT tests. The IELTS or TOEFL scores are also required.
 

Which Exam is Required for Study in New Zealand?

  • IELTS: New Zealand asks for an IELTS score of at least 6.0. The score varies according to the course that you apply for. Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s ask for a score of 6.5, and the other courses require at least 6.0. However, universities like the University of Auckland, University of Otago, Unitec Institute of Technology, Canterbury University, and Lincoln University do not ask for an IELTS score provided you clear their entrance test.
  • TOEFL: You will need a TOEFL score of at least 60 to get into a university in New Zealand. However, this depends on the university and the course; you should check it before preparing for the test. 
  • PTE: The PTE score is accepted by several universities in New Zealand, and you can also opt to attempt it. The minimum score should be 58 to apply for a student visa, which varies according to your course and university. The validity of the PTE test score is two years.

Student Visa for New Zealand from India

If your course is more than three months long, you need to take a student visa in order to study in New Zealand. Applying online is most common now, and it can be done quickly. The New Zealand High Commission takes 63 calendar days to process everything. So, it is better to apply before three months to have everything handy by the time you leave for the country. You must have a few documents to apply for a student visa to study in New Zealand. They include
